A New England delicacy that's been served in restaurants all over the Cape for years - I'm delighted to share the Ryan family recipe with any who'd like to make this a part of their Thanksgiving.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats.
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup melted margarine or butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tbsp. corn starch
- 3 cups chopped unpeeled tart apples (such as Granny Smiths)
- 2 cups fresh or frozen (thawed) cranberries, halved
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine the first five ingredients in a small bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, cinnamon, and corn starch. Add the fruit and toss well. Spread into a greased 8-inch square baking pan, and sprinkle the dry mixture evenly over the top.
Bake 35-45 minutes or until the fruit is hot and bubbly and the oats are browned. Serve warm, or at room temperature.
