Joey's Dorm Room
This set is built on Stage 8. The only design edict that Paul Stupin gave me for the set was that he wanted it to feel like the most idealistic dorm room anyone had ever seen. He wanted people to see this dorm and wish that they could attend this college. In our research of dorm rooms and halls, we were hard pressed to find anything even close to being this opulent. Even at prestigious schools like Duke and Harvard the dorms were still tiny little rooms with very utilitarian hallways. So reality kind of took a back seat, which freed us up to create a very warm, yet semi-imposing space. We wanted this set to really highlight the difference between where Joey comes from and where her future is leading. Many of the gothic elements prevalent in the exterior campus of Worthington (really Duke University) were pulled into the design of this space. The other role this set will play is the 'replacement' so to speak, of the old Capeside school hallway that was the site of oh so many walks and talks. The long hallway on this set allows us to accomplish the same thing (day or night) without everyone always having to be on their way to class.
